The Certification of Harokopio University of Athens took place between November 19 and 23, 2018.
The Hellenic Quality Assurance and Accreditation Agency (HQA), in its meeting no. 75/18-12-2018, and in accordance with no. 8013/28-12-2018 decision, certifies that the Internal Quality Assurance System (IQAS) of the Harokopio University of Athens fully complies with the principles of the Hellenic Authority for Higher Education Quality Standard and the Quality Assurance Principles of the European Higher Education Area (ESG).
The result, as reflected in the committee’s multi-page report, was excellent for Harokopio University of Athens, since it received the highest possible assessment (fully compliant), for all requirements related to the eight axes of Quality Assurance, namely in:
1) the policy of the Foundation for Quality Assurance
2) the provision and management of the necessary resources
3) establishing Quality Assurance objectives
4) the structure, organization and operation of the Quality Assurance System
5) the internal evaluation
6) the collection of quality data (measurement, analysis and improvement)
7) the disclosure of information
8) the external evaluation and certification of the Internal Quality Assurance System
The Institution’s Accreditation proves that Harokopio University of Athens of Athens has a Quality Policy suitable for achieving its strategic goals with transparent procedures at all levels of study (undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral and postdoctoral research).
From the beginning of its operation, in 1993, Harokopio University of Athens has given particular importance to the quality of its educational and research work, as well as the general operation of the Foundation, recognizing the importance of evaluation for achieving high quality and continuous improvement of its work.
Based on the current institutional framework, the Quality Assurance Unit (QAU) is the central unit of the University, which informs and coordinates the overall internal and external evaluation process of the Departments and the Institution. It coordinates the collection of data for the University’s educational and research work and proposes ideas and actions to improve the quality of the evaluation. QAU coordinates the process of drawing up the internal evaluation reports of the Departments and actively participates in the process of their external evaluation. Harokopio University of Athens carries out all the required evaluations using new technologies and aims to further highlight the Institution at a pan-Hellenic and international level.
QAU of Harokopio University has been working since 2008, continuing a tradition of processes that lead to the continuous improvement of the University’s educational and research work. In October 2010, the inclusion of the project entitled “QAU of Harokopio University of Athens” in the Operational Program “Education and Lifelong Learning 2007-2013” strengthened the efforts of QAU to create an assessment-based quality assurance framework. In 2018, the structure, operation and responsibilities of QAU were revised so that Harokopio University of Athens and the Internal Quality Assurance System (IQAS) are in accordance with the latest requirements of the institutional and regulatory framework (Government Gazette B’ 833/09.03.2018).
With the no. 98901/03.03.2022 decision of the Senate (Government Gazette 1436/B΄/24.03.2022), the QAU committee is supported by an independent administrative structure which is structured at the level of an independent Department entitled “Quality Assurance Department” and reports directly to the Rector or to one of the Vice-Chancellors following a relevant transfer of authority.
