Within the framework of international university rankings, Harokopio University has been an integral part of several of them in recent years, occupying a prominent position in rankings such as Times Higher Education, Scimago, Webometrics, etc. The Quality Assurance Unit, in collaboration with the Rectorates, aims to improve the university’s position in various ranking systems and further enhance its reputation. They are continually informed about developments and changes in these rankings and have developed a network of collaborations with the organizations that publish them. The purpose is to highlight the research and academic work of the institution, improve its position in these international rankings, and further integrate it into new ranking systems.
With the improvement of the University’s performance in education, research, innovation, and funding, its position in international rankings has consequently improved over time, along with the expansion of its global reputation by attracting additional international collaborations with universities and organizations. Specifically, in the Times Higher Education ranking, Harokopio University was ranked for the first time in 2022, securing the top position among Greek universities, and in 2023-2025 it maintained its position among the top three, indicating a significant consolidation of the institution’s global recognition. Additionally, in the Scimago and Webometrics rankings, which primarily draw data from online scientific databases, a gradual improvement in the University’s position is also observed.
For further enhancing the image and visibility of Harokopio University’s work through international rankings, the Quality Assurance Unit provides data to the entities publishing the relevant assessment tables and works to expand the University’s participation in other international rankings. Additionally, the University’s position in international rankings, as well as the position of its Schools in corresponding thematic rankings, are included as performance indicators in the University’s Strategic Development Plan for the years 2024 – 2028, under Goal 1 of the Quality Assurance of Studies, Priority 1 concerning Education for the Strategic Value of International University – Academic Development.
